Now what Stage IV and scared
I was dx in March 2006 with invasive ductal carcinoma, 5cm, er+pr+her2nu+.  I had a left breast masectomy, 30 rads, 5 chemo treatments and 1 year of Herceptin.  I was on tamoxifen for 3 years, then switched to Femara.  In June of 2009 I had a histerectomy.  Everything was going great until Nov 2009 a small lesion was found on my breast bone.  Now taking aredia 1 x month and aromasin.  I have two small children 8 and 5 and want so bad to see them grow up, I don't know which way to turn

Oh Dawn. Big hug. Recurrence is everyone's biggest fear. Please read some of the Stage IV success stories on here. Trust your doctors. Push them to do absolutely everything. You must stay for those kids. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT. Hugs.

Hi Dawn, I'd like to try and reassure you that you're going to get through this! If all they found was ONE new lesion, that's a good thing. I know it would be much better if there were NO new lesions, but as long as your liver & lungs are clear you are doing really well. I have numerous bone mets, and though they cause me pain they aren't really a threat to my life. I listened to a teleconference through Living Beyond Breast Cancer on Jan 6th (it's now posted as a podcast on their website at www.lbbc.org) with Dr. Eric Winer from the U.S. He had soem very good information that came out of the recent San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference in December. You might want to check it out :) It's an hour and 15 mins long but you can likely go back and pick up where you left off at anytime. I know being diagnosed Stage 4 is a very scary thing, but please know that it's not the death sentence you may be imagining. I've lived with stage 4 breast cancer for over NINE years and it's stayed stable for that time. There have been a couple of bumps in the road the last 2 years but everything has turned out fine. Please feel free to email me directly off my website: www.lisarendall.com. I hope they've got you back on Herceptin or are talking about it? Just take each moment and each day one at a time and do the best you can to get through. If you have any questions at all, please email me through my website and I'll help you in any way I can. Sincerely, Lisa Rendall

I'm so sorry Dawn. To have to go through this once is enough - but to have to do it all over again is so unfair..... Do you have to have more chemo? Was the lesion found on the same side as the mastectomy? I also had a mastectomy, chemo and radiation and am currently going through my herceptin treatments. I am praying for you. Sue
