rethink breast cancer
I'm so Young!!
I remember when I first heard the words "You have breast cancer!" The day was January 6th, 2009. Those words will forever ring in my ears. Two weeks later, I found out I was also ER+/PR+/HER2+ - Stage 3. I really didn't understand at the time what that meant for me in regards to treatment. I knew that being ER+ and PR+ was a "good" thing but what did HER2 mean? I did some research and I scared myself. HER2 = aggressive cancer! What?? I'm only 40 years old!! Upon reading some articles of Herceptin, I felt a little more at ease. I've met some women who are not positive for HER2 and they feel that they wish they were so they can get "extra" treatment.

As of last week, my scans were all clean. I pray everyday that it stays that way. I want to live, and with Herceptin, I believe I know have that chance.

Keep fighting Kim! I've heard from so many women over the years that they wish they were Her2+...some even fight with their doctors to be tested multiple times, and in a way I can understand why. We are SO lucky to have Herceptin - a treatment for the minority of breast cancer patients. It is saving so many lives. I was diagnosed 9 years ago and was stage 4. My cancer is still stable!! Stay positive and live life to the fullest as I'm sure you already are :)
